The Ceiling

Image
Hey everyone!! Welcome back to my Blog, thanks for being here! In this blog we will be working on the ceiling. I got her back from the paint shop and she looks great with that wrap finally gone. I then took her straight to the RV shop to have the Max Air Fan installed. Cutting a hole in the roof of my van just wasn't something I was comfortable doing plus I didn't have the right tools for that job. I am trying to come up with a name for her. Nothing comes to mind at the moment so I just call her "Her" for the time being. Now that she is back home I can start on installing the ceiling. Once I get the ceiling done I can start putting the inside together for my first big trip. I'm so excited!! She will not be finished of course, but good enough to take Her out for a road trip. Plus I would be able to see how I needed to arrange things inside. I have made several changes to the interior since finding what works best where, and you will too when you build yo...

The Walls

Hey everyone! Welcome back to my blog, thanks for being here.  Last week we tackled the floors. In today's blog I will be talking about putting the walls in my van.   I used the same batting board to build the wall frame as I used to build the frame for the floor. The sides of the van have hollow ribs, that's where I attached the frame with self drilling metal screws. And of course putting in the Havelock Wool insulation.    For the wall boards themselves I went with the Weaber 1/2" x 4" x 4ft white washed weathered hardwood boards. They come 8 to a case, easy to cut and install. You just have to be careful because sometimes they will split on you if you put the screw too close to the edge.    Let's remember something at this point before the next picture...I really have no clue what I am doing. I'm flying by the seat of my pants. Frame is set, it's time to put the boards up. Now here comes the problem. Do you see it? I can hear you laughin...

The Subfloor

Hey Everyone! Welcome back to my blog, thanks for being here. Today we are picking back up from where we left off in the last blog. If you haven't yet read that blog go back and check it out.    I received the van back from the paint and body shop with the bolt holes fixed and the surface rust treated and painted. I also sent her out for new tires. I chose a bigger size tire than what was on it and put the Falcon Wildpeak A/T's on her. She's starting to look spiffy now!   Now I'm ready to start the build...I think...like I said I have never built anything before in my life. I am contemplating where to start. In the meantime I need to get started with the insulation.    I had been researching the best ways to insulate a van. Although there are many great recommendations I decided to go with Havelock Wool. It's 100% natural, it absorbs moisture, it is also used as a sound barrier, Havelock Wool has an impressive R7 value per inch of 3.6.2". It was one of th...

Now What?

Let me tell you a true story. I am near retirement age, I had planned on working at the company I was at for another 2.5 years then retire. But guess what? The owner put it up for sale and it sold within 6 months!!   Now what? I didn't really want to start all over with another company just to retire in a year and a half. Plus at my age companies do not want to hire us older people. So I began praying for something that I could do to make money and travel. That would be the dream life right!!   I wasn't interested in doing the norms like medical transcripts or workamping at RV resorts tied down for months at a time, basically I didn't want to work for someone else. I wanted to make my own hours. But how? What could I do? To start a business would cost thousands of dollars and at my age I just didn't have the desire to start a traditional business.    Now I have dabbled in network marking businesses before but it just wasn't the right product or the right timin...
